Congressman Jim McGovern, Representative (Dem., Mass.), sent his congratulatory message to the Uyghur Post launch event, which was read by Todd Stein, Staff Director at the Lantos Human Rights Commission.
In his remarks, Congressman Jim McGovern expressed his confidence that the Uyghur Post will be an independent voice for the Uyghur people and praised the spirit and resilience of the Uyghur community.
“Uyghur Post will be a new independent news organization in the Uyghur language designed to fill the information gap left by Uyghur Voices and invest in Uyghur journalism.
I have every confidence in this endeavor based on the esteemed names listed on the editorial team, some of whom have testified before a commission, uh, and whose work has contributed in some way to the legislation and policy work that we have advanced in Congress. I look forward to learning more about the success of Uyghur Post as it starts its work and builds its team.
The Uyghur people have shown amazing resilience in the face of so many challenges and so much pain caused by a brutal government that seeks to deprive them of their dignity and identity. The Uyghur Post reflects the best of this spirit. I have no doubt that it will succeed.
